Left parties would target the Manmohan Singh government on issues of price rise and corruption during the Monsoon session, with the CPI on Thursday saying the ruling coalition has "completely failed" to fulfil promises made in Parliament.
"Parliament last year unanimously passed a resolution asking the government to take steps to control prices. One year later, the government stands completely helpess. It allows oil companies to hike prices of petro products leading to cascading effect on prices of all essential items," Communist Party of India National Secretary D Raja said.
On corruption issue, he said major scams have erupted due to the neo-liberal policies being pursued by the government, which has now decided to bring the Lokpal bill "as decided by the all-party meeting" a week ago.
Raja said the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, by deciding to remove B S Yedyurappa from the post of Karnataka Chief Minister, would now be able to take on the government on corruption more freely.
He said the government was "dithering" on the issue of land acquisition as well as food security. These issues affect the entire country and its people. The Left parties would also criticise the government for "complete failure" on internal security. "Home Minister P Chidambaram has completely failed. There is total lack of vision and any suitable strategy"
On foreign policy issues, Raja said the Left parties would raise the issue of "war crimes" against Sri Lankan Tamils and would demand that the government "raises its voice. The government cannot remain silent any longer on this issue".
The assurances given by the prime minister on nuclear deal that there would be a clean waiver by the Nuclear Suppliers Group on India has not come.
"There is no clear waiver," the CPI leader said, adding that the issue of safety in Jaitapur nuclear plant would also be raised during the session, particularly in the context of what happened in the nuclear plants in Japan after the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
