Militants struck in Kashmir's Sopore district late Wednesday night, targeting local Member of Legislative Assembly Mohammad Ashraf.
One Special Police Officer was killed in the attack.
Militants opened fire at the residence of the Sopore MLA in Dangerpora locality from automatic weapons.
A senior police officer confirmed the death of the Special Police Officer and added that two other cops were injured in the heavy firing by the militants.
It was not immediately known whether Ashraf was at home when the militants struck.
