The Army said nearly 2500 armed militants are ready in Pakistan training camps to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir.

"2000 to 2500 armed militants in Pakistan training camps are ready to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir," Brigadier General of Staff, 16 Corps, Brigadier Gurdeep Singh told media-persons at Nagrota Corps headquarters in Jammu on Monday. He said there were approximately 42 training camps across the border out of which 34 are active.

Singh, who displayed the Pakistan-made items recovered from two slain Lashker-e-Tayiba militants in Rajouri district on Saturday before the media, said, "it shows complicity of our neighbour. Who has provided the two militants with a Thuraya Satellite phone? Who provided the militants with a Global Positioning System (GPS)?They are registered with government and are not available in market so easily," he said.

This shows that some element in Pakistan has got them registered and later handed it over to terrorists, he said. "Most of the recoveries point to the involvement of our neigbour. Two Nokia mobile sets with 2 sim cards of Juzz and Tenor mobile companies of Pakistan, perfume brands of Haji Gulzareen Khashbu House of Peshawar, Star high nutrition mixer of Multan road Lahore, Mosquito repellent from Karachi and 2 GB MP3 player (Pak made)," Singh said.

While militants are desperate to cross into this side, a security grid is put in place to foil their design and stop infiltration, he said, adding that our troops are alert to ensure no infiltration takes place.

Referring to the infiltration by 6 to 7 militants in Akhnoor belt few days back, he said two militants have been neutralized and hunt is on for the rest. "All measures are being taken to eliminate that group. We will use helicopters to ferry troops where ever militants are located for speedy operation," Brigadier Singh said.

On the number of militants in the state, he said 200 to 250 militants, 50 per cent of them foreign mercenaries, are operating in Jammu region and nearly 300 in Kashmir. He said, "we have also focused on over ground workers (OGWs) and facilitated their arrest under a pro-active policy to target OGWs of militants".

To a question about suicide teams on the LOC, he said no such report have been received by them but militants use fidayeen squads.
