Parag Sawant, who slipped into coma after sustaining severe head injuries in the 2006 serial train blasts, is showing remarkable improvement and is able to recognise his family members.

29-year-old Parag remained immobilized even after he came out of coma. But since last week, he has began communicating and even mouthing few words like `ayei and `papa, Dr Basant K Mishra, the neurosurgeon attending on him at Hinduja Hospital, said.

Coming out of coma doesn't happen like we see in movies, it is a slow process and since he had severe head injuries, he has taken a longer time to reach this stage, It is still a long way to go, Mishra said.

His recovery was very slow as in the last few months, he obeyed commands only occasionally and in the last one month he showed some movement of limbs and looks at his family members and since last week, he even responded to commands and communicates few words faster than what he was doing earlier which is again very slow, he said.        I

Still can't say how much he is able to recognize his family members and it is only a guess work, he said.

Dr Mishra said he could only express the words through lip movement as he has a tracheostomy for breathing and when it is removed he may possibly be able to speak somewhat normally. But one does not know when that will happen, he said.

Parags' happy father Jaypr Akash Parasuram Sawant said his son was able to recognize every one in the family including his wife Preeti.

The family said it was thankful to former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya for his help in getting funds from the railways for his treatment.
