The first ever bus service from Kargil to Jammu has been started by the Jammu and Kashmir government.

The Kargil-Jammu bus service was flagged off by Qamar Ali Akhoon, advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Wednesday, in the presence of Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, an official spokesman said.

The service is being operated by the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation, the spokesman said, adding the "high-tech" bus is equipped with all the latest facilities and will charge Rs 1,000 per passenger.

"The service was the need of the hour which will help  the student community studying in Jammu, Delhi and other cities of the country and businessmen in general," the spokesman quoted Akhoon as saying.

"It was also the long pending demand of the people of Kargil. The JKSRTC purchased two high-tech buses to ply on Kargil-Jammu route, keeping in view this necessity of bus service on the said route," Akhoon said.
