In a fitting tribute to the outgoing President, school students in Indore have created a distinctive and unconventional portrait of A P J Abdul Kalam, using foodgrains on a canvas measuring over 1,100 square feet.

Prepared by the fine arts stream students of Indore Public School, the portrait will be displayed for three days in the IPS Academy, chairman Achal Choudhary told PTI in Indore on Tuesday.

Five quintals of foodgrains used in the exhibit will thereafter be distributed among poor persons, she said.

"The idea behind drawing a portrait with foodgrains is that it gelled with the earthy image of the President, who spearheaded the concern of providing food-security to the nation as part of his mission to make India a developed nation by 2020," she said.

Seven varieties of foodgrains were used in drawing the huge portrait of the 'missile man' as a mark of respect, Choudhary added.

The students also lighted candles around the grain figure carrying placards reading 'We will miss you sir', 'The missile man of India' and 'Long live the President Sir' among others.
