A Lieutenant Colonel was shot dead by a jawan in Srinagar on Tuesday.
Lt Col Saket Saxena was killed by Sepoy S C Behra on Tuesday afternoon in Harwan area of the city, a defence spokesman said.
The spokesman said the erring jawan, who fired from his service rifle, was arrested after the incident. An internal inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the circumstances leading to the killing.
This is the fifth incident of
shooting within the forces in a fortnight in Jammu and Kashmir.
On October 21, an army jawan shot dead three of his colleagues before trying to kill himself in Rajouri district. Two days later in the same district, a jawan killed two of his colleagues before committing suicide.
An army jawan and a Central Reserve Police Force personal killed themselves with their service rifles in Poonch on October 27 and in Anantnag on October 18 respectively.
