Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to Renu Pundir, widow of the slain IRCON engineer Sudhir Pundir, at Dudhli in Muzaffanagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

Pundir, who was overseeing the Srinagar-Jammu rail project, and his younger brother were kidnapped and killed by suspected Lashkar-e-Tayiba militants last week.

The militants had demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh for their release.
