Angry over the death of a school student in an accident, a jeep driver was burnt alive by a mob in Bihar's Gopalganj district on Thursday morning, police said.

The jeep accidentally hit three school students, killing one of them on the spot and injuring two others in a village near Mirganj in Gopalganj. Following the incident, angry villagers thrashed the driver and set his jeep on fire.

"Some villagers threw the driver into the flames of the burning jeep. He burnt to death," Sanjay Kumar, a district police officer told rediff.com over telephone.

A police case has been lodged against the unknown assailants in this connection. Ironically, it is not an isolated case but another instance of street justice in Bihar.

In last one month over two dozen people were beaten to death by angry mobs in separate incidents across the state. Lynching of alleged criminals, thieves and anti-social elements is common in rural areas.
