J-K floods: Schools in Jammu reopen after a week

Schools in Jammu have reopened after remaining shut for a week due to heavy floods and rainfall. The schools as well as all the localities had got flooded due to the heavy rains and consequently the administration shut down the schools for the safety of the students and staff.

Wjile students said that their studies suffered a lot, the teachers expressed hope that things would soon be back to normal.

Rani Devi, a student of std X said, “There was too much water everywhere, and that’s why the students could not come to school. Our studies have suffered a lot as well. We are in class 10th and have to give our board exams soon. We have never before seen such a flood situation here.”

School principal Swatantre Sharma said, “There was a programme here on September 5, when Modi ji was supposed to address the students, but on the same day the administration declared the holidays. We were initially given two days off, but later they increased it.”

Sharma also said that although not a lot of students had arrived in the school on Friday, she was hopeful that things would be back to normal very soon.
