Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed has said India is deeply concerned about the welfare of the four million overseas Indians and the country's foreign policies are framed taking this factor into account.

Addressing a community reception at the Indian Cultural Centre in the Qatari capital of Doha Sunday night, Ahamed announced that the government would accord top priority to solve the problems faced by its people overseas.

He promised to take up issues such as staff shortages at Indian missions, measures to solve the problems faced by workers and strengthening of bilateral ties.

He received a memorandum that covered issues such as attestation of documents, introduction of smart cards, setting up of a Pravasi Centre, separate Pravasi Day for the Gulf region, reservation for non resident Indian students in educational institutions and land for the Indian Cultural Centre.
