In recognition to nearly 50 years of meritorious service rendered by two squadrons of the Indian Air Force, President A P J Abdul Kalam on Thursday presented the 'President's Standard' to Bhuj-based MIG-21 squadron and Chandigarh-based AN-32 squadron at a special ceremonial parade at the Air Force base in Bhuj, Gujarat.

Nicknamed the Black Panthers (MIG-21) and the Camels (AN-32), the squadrons are the 39th and 40th IAF units respectively to receive this

rare honour.

Flying Officer Kartik Ramesh of the 37 squadron and Flight Lieutenant M P Khairnar of the 48 squadron received the President's Standard on behalf of the two squadrons, while Wing Commander Puneet Sharma (48 squadron) commanded the parade.

Colours and Standard in military parlance symbolise excellence. The award of colours and Standard by the President of India is an honour bestowed in recognition of the distinguished service rendered by a unit to the nation.
