'I don't want to be known as the wife of a terrorist'

Shocked and worried, Asma Khatoon, wife of Eizaz alias Mohammad Kalam, who was arrested on charges of working for Pakistan’s Inter-services Intelligence, has demanded a death sentence for her husband and made it clear that she would end her relationship with him.

Kalam, a resident of Taramadi Chowk, Irfanabad, Islamabad, Pakistan, was arrested by a special task force team from Meerut Cantt area  on last Friday, when he was on his way to Delhi with sensitive documents related to the Indian Army.

“I do not want to be known as wife of a terrorist or a man who has worked against the country,” Asma, a resident of Azimabad village in Bihar’s Bhojpur district said.

Asma, who is pregnant, said “If my pregnancy was not in advanced stage, I would have aborted. Now the situation has forced me to deliver the child, but I will not give the child the father’s name,” she said.

She said that she never imagined that Eizaz was a Pakistani national and had links with the ISI.

According to the local police, Eizaz had stayed in Bhojpur for nearly one-and-a-half years with his in laws before shifting to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.

A first information report against Eizaz has been registered at Sadar Bazar police station of Meerut and intelligence agencies have been informed about his arrest.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that in 2012 he came in contact with the ISI, which trained him to work in India from where he had to send information about the army from western UP and Uttarakhand.

In India, he started photography and videography to collect the information and procured the Aadhar card from Bareilly with help of a local. Interrogation revealed that he had been paid Rs 5.8 lakh till date and his family was being paid Rs 50,000 per month in Pakistan.
