The Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday uneathered a module of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit with the arrest of a militant and recovery of arms and ammunitions.

Baggage search of a person during a surprise cordon and search operation conducted at Nawab Bazaar in downtown Srinagar by the police led to the recovery of an explosive device receiver, four mobile sets, six sim cards, 10 rounds of AK-47 and a cash of Rs 4316, a police spokesman said.

He said on the basis of these recoveries, a case under section 7/25 Indian Arms Act and 121 Ranbir Penal Code was registered in Maharaj Gunj police station.

During the course of investigations, it came forth that a module of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was operating from downtown Srinagar for several years and had been facilitating militant activities through a computer training centre which had been established by the outfit at Habba Kadal, he said.

The spokesman said this computer centre was used as a hideout, as a meeting point of militants and as a militant communication centre.

Following this revelation, police raided the computer training centre from where IED circuits, timer devices, indicators, power resistance accessories, soldering kit along with solar charging system and thousands of minor accessories were recovered, the spokesman said.

This is the third module of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit to be busted by the police in the valley within a fortnight.

Police, on June 7, busted two modules of the outfit in Baramulla district with the arrest of 14 youth involved in IED blasts and other subversive activities.
