The Delhi high court on Monday said it will take appropriate action against civic authorities if they are found violating its earlier order that banned marriages and private parties at commercial farmhouses on roads that are less than 60 feet wide.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Ghambhir directed the petitioner Bhrashtachar Virodhi Sanghatan, to file on affidavit its allegations that marriages and private functions continued to be conducted at the unauthorised farmhouses despite the order.

The organisation's counsel Manjit Singh Ahuluwalia furnished in the court photographs and invitation cards to substantiate the allegations.

The bench then directed the counsel to file an affidavit along with the photographs and invitation cards within two weeks so that appropriate action could be taken against those responsible for violating the court's directions.

The high court had earlier banned organising of marriages and other functions at these farmhouses after the outfit moved a public interest litigation complaining that such activities were causing untold hardship to the general public and local residents.

It had complained that the presence of the unauthorised farmhouses on narrow roads was causing severe traffic jams in various parts of the capital.
