Amid growing dissidence against Chief Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the Gujarat assembly polls, central Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Thursday night reviewed the situation in Gujarat at a meeting with key leaders from the state.

Senior BJP leaders, including party chief Rajnath Singh, Lal Kishenchand Advani, general secretary in charge of the state Arun Jaitley discussed the affairs of the state with Modi, Gujarat party chief Purshottam Rupala and MPs from the state.

The meeting was attended also by Modi's detractors Keshubhai Patel, Somabhai Patel, Kanshiram Rana among others.

The dissident trio made an early exit from the meeting and Modi and Rupala were closeted with other leaders from the state for a long period.

Most of the leaders, who left the BJP chief's residence -- the venue of the meeting -- were tightlipped about the discussions.

Somabhai Patelis, a prominent leader of Koli community and a Lok Sabha MP from Surendranagar, is a known critic of Modi.

The meeting is a part of a week-long exercise of deliberations with party units from across the country, especially from the states going to poll in the near future.

Modi, who arrived late for the meeting, was understood to have asked central BJP leaders to use their influence with the RSS to rein them in.
