The key witness in the Best Bakery case, Zaheera Sheikh, was on Thursday shifted from Vadodara, police said.
"Zaheera and her relatives have been taken to Ahmedabad, where they will be given protection by security personnel of the Gujarat Intelligence Bureau," a police official said.
The official, however, did not disclose the exact location where Zaheera would be kept.
The development came a day after Zaheera did a U-turn and accused nongovernmental organisation activist Teesta Setalvad of pressuring her into naming innocent persons as accused in the case.
In Mumbai, where the retrial in the case is going on, Special Public Prosecutor Manjula Rao said she expected Zaheera and her family to turn hostile.
"That is why we have not examined them till now," she said.
Asked if a fresh summon would be issued to her, Rao said "we will see", and added that Zaheera had refused to accept the previous summon issued to her.
