A 'mysterious blast' was heard in several parts of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodra districts in Gujarat on Monday morning.
The sound, described by people as a loud booming sound, was heard at about 1030 IST, fire brigade sources said but added that they had no reports of any casualties.
The source of the sound is not yet known, though people have reported that houses shook and windows rattled, they said.
The Met office said they had no specific information on the 'blast.'
Director of Indian Meteorological Department A K Shukla said no earthquake has been recorded in the Gujarat region.
"No significant earthquake activity has taken place in the region. We are constantly monitoring the situation and are gathering data to verify if it was a small quake," Shukla said.
He said preliminary reports of the 'blasts' appear to be similar to the kind of underground activity that occurred in Jamnagar recently.
Ahmedabad District Collector Anita Karwal said the sound was heard in the city and the outskirts of Gandhinagar but there have been no reports of any damage.
A senior police officer said mobile vans have been dispatched to various areas from where reports of houses shaking under the impact of the 'blast' were received.
