Strategy to avoid protracted wrangle with Congress in Parliament?
The winter session of Parliament is expected to be the short, as the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership does not want it to be a washout like the monsoon session was, says a highly-placed political source.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to take a final call in the matter on October 19, when he would meet Union ministers Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and M Venkaiah Naidu to discuss the issue.
Two windows have been suggested for the winter session, it is learnt:
The first one is from November 25 to December 23, and the other window is from November 30 to December 23.
In any case, December 23 would be the last working day of the winter session, as members of Parliament from the south and north-east would want to reach their constituencies before Christmas.
After the Bihar election results are announced on November 12, the prime minister is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom, Turkey and Singapore from November 16 to November 24.
The government wants to factor in these considerations before arriving at a final decision on the dates.
