The Godhra inquiry panel on Saturday ordered two mobile service providers to provide the call details of Gujarat ministers, legislators, police officials and Chief Minister Narendra Modi, during the post-Godhra communal riots in 2002.

Nanavati-Shah Commission Chairman Justice (retd) G T Nanavati directed the mobile service providers -- AT&T and Cellforce (now Idea and Vodafone, respectively) -- to give the call details of 43 mobile phones, which includes the number of Modi.

The others whose call details have been sought include Cabinet ministers in the Gujarat government Ashok Bhatt, I K Jadeja, MLA Maya Kodnani and home minister during the riots (and sitting MLA) Gordhan Zadaphiya.

Call records of several police officers like the then commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad, P C Pandey, the then DGP K Chakravarthy and others have also been called for.

Apart from it, the commission has also sought phone records of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia, accused in Naroda Patiya massacre case, Babu Bajrangi and others.

"The data of these mobile phones will expose the collusion between politicians, police officials and rioters," advocate Mukul Sinha said on behalf of Jan Sangharsh Manch, the NGO representing a section of riot-affected families before the commission.

The Nanavati-Shah Commission issued the orders to the two mobile companies after the Gujarat government repeatedly questioned the "authenticity" of the compact discs (containing data of phone calls during the riots) submitted to the commission by an IPS officer Rahul Sharma.
