Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Gadkari on Friday led party leaders and workers in courting arrest as part of its nationwide 'jail bharo' agitation in Nagpur to protest rising inflation and recent hike in petroleum products.

Addressing party workers at the Variety square near the Gandhi statue in the city, Gadkari criticised the United Progressive Alliance government for its failure to control rising prices and rampant corruption in the country.

"It has failed on all fronts and was indulging in anti-people policies. Common man has suffered a lot due to price rise. Even farmers were not happy due to the rise in prices of urea and fertilisers and still committing suicides," he said adding industries were also facing closure due to faulty policies of the UPA government.

Gadkari also sought to know why the UPA government was reluctant to disclose the list of those who have stashed black money abroad.

Probably, the Congress knows if the list of account holders in overseas banks is made public, many prominent Congress leaders will be exposed, he said.

The BJP chief promised that if his party comes to power, prevailing prices of essential prices will be brought down to half. Earlier, Rajya Sabha member of Parliament Ajay Kumar Sancheti, former MP

Banwarilal Purohit, party legislators Krishna Khopde, Vikas Kumbhare, Sudhir Parve, Nana Patole and others courted arrest.
