Malaika Arora in a Wendell Rodricks creationWe wanted to do a style check on a designer at Lakme India Fashion Week. Who better, we thought, than one of India's foremost style gurus, Wendell Rodricks! So here goes:

He is wearing: A black shirt and beige pants. Wendell pretty much goes for the stark look. When he is not in all black, he is wearing a cool white kurta-pyjama.

His show: Was called Baga Goa, Wendell's collection showcased style for real people of all sizes and ages.It had kids, teenagers, models and old people on the ramp showing his designs.

His colours for the show: Really bright colours like green, rani pink, acid yellow, peacock blue and kumkum red.

His cuts: The trademark Wendell Rodricks fluid geometrical cuts. Lots of layering, asymmetric hemlines, fluid cuts.

His fabrics: Silk crepe, chiffon, coarse and fine linen, georgette, organza and lyrca. Apart from using texturisation like crinkles and ribbing, Wendell used embellishments like fluffy pompoms, hand-rolled rosettes, button-shaped scales and T-shirt sparkle.

The shows that he is looking forward to: All the new and young designers. "I am really keen to see their work," he says.

What else is he doing apart from his show? Wendell is covering the Lakme India Fashion Week for a few newspapers. And, of course, he is doing a whole lot of partying.

His advice: Concentrate on style, not fashion. Style is a personal expression. Fashion is what everyone else follows.

Last word: "Mumbai is so much better than Delhi. I wish the Fashion Week was in Mumbai this year too. And, yeah, Mumbai is closer to Goa, too, where I live."
