A high-level Punjab police team had questioned Ram Rahim on Friday and are likely to quiz him again next week.
The women whose portraits have been released to the media include Gurcharan Kaur, Virpal Kaur, Usha Rani, Kuldeep Kaur and Binderpal. All of them are followers of Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh and have been closely associated with him. One more woman has been identified but her name has not been released.
Though top state police officers have denied the report that was carried by all television channels on
Friday night but they are not taking any chances. Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, who is one of the targets of these women, told newsmen in Chandigarh on Friday night that he was not unduly worried about threat to his life. The intelligence bureau has neither confirmed nor rejected the contents of the story.
There has been a stand off between the Sikhs and the followers of Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh ever since he released a picture showing himself in the attire of Guru Gobind Singh.
While the Sikhs including the head Jatthedar of Akal Takhat have been demanding unqualified apology from Dehra chief and an undertaking that he would not do this again, though Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh's sect has tendered two apologies on his behalf but they have been found unsatisfactory by the Sikhs who are outraged by the actions of what they call 'self-styled Gurus'.
