A Delhi court on Thursday convicted four persons, including two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, for possession of explosives and plotting to carry out bomb blasts in the national capital in 2001.
The other two found guilty for committing the offence of collecting arms with intention to wage war against the state were activists of banned Students Islamic Movement of India.
The Hizbul ultras -- Gulzar Ahmed Wani, Moinuddin -- and SIMI activists, Feroz Rafi and Mumtaz, were arrested from New Delhi Railway station on July 30, 2001, and the police had recovered a huge haul of RDX, grenade, launcher, detonator and other explosives.
Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur held them guilty under various provisions of the IPC and the Explosives Substances Act.
However, the prosecution has failed to prove the charge under Section 121 (waging war against the state) of the Indian Penal Code.
With their arrest, the police had claimed to have solved six blasts cases including 2001 Sena Bhavan blast case.
However, the court had acquitted the accused in all the six cases for lack of evidence except the present one.
