CRPF trooper who killed kabaddi player dies

The Central Reserve Police Force trooper, who fired at himself after gunning down a national-level woman kabaddi player, succumbed of his injuries in Patna, officials said on Friday.

Jaswan Singh, who was critically wounded, died on Thursday at the Patna Medical College Hospital, Superintendent of the hospital O P Choudhary said.

He had shot dead Manisha (21), near Bahadurpur railway crossing, from his AK-47 on February 9 after she refused to share her mobile number with him. The CRPF man later fired at himself.

Manisha's family, who are natives of a village in Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh, had on Thursday taken her body to the state for cremation.

Singh was posted at the CRPF camp at Moinul Haq Stadium in Patna where Manisha, who was also a railway employee, had gone to attend practice sessions for the 34th National Games in Jharkhand beginning February 12.

The jawan of the 131st CRPF Battalion was a resident of Rajasthan.

Expressing shock over the killing, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had said that the state government would ask the CRPF headquarters to take immediate steps to withdraw its camps from the stadium and colleges in Bihar.
