Seeking to cash in on the Ramzan sentiment, a senior Congress leader has sought to link the increasing power crisis in Uttar Pradesh to the plight of Muslims during the fasting month.

UP Congress media coordinator and former legislator, Siraj Mehndi has shot off a letter to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, urging him to issue necessary directions in this regard.

"Muslims are being to put to much inconvenience during their 'roza' on account of the unabated power crisis, as the supply is limited to a few hours during the day and late in the night. Resultantly, both the early morning 'sehri' and the evening 'iftar' have to be carried out without electricity," Mehndi pointed out in his letter.

He further sought to draw the chief minister's attention to the fact that the power situation was better in the previous Mayawati regime.

"The previous government was particular about ensuring better power supply during the month of 'Ramzan' and we were hoping that the SP government too would take care to facilitate the least comfort during the fasting month," he added.
