Hundreds of chickens have died in Hingna village, 10 km away from Patur tehsil town in Akola district in Maharashtra since Friday, official sources said adding, the deaths were not caused due to bird flu.

Responding to a complaint by a Hingna Gram Panchayat member to the Panchayati Samiti, officials from Maharashtra Animal Husbandry department after examination found the birds had died due to white dysentry, sources said.

The district administration has also claimed that no chicken has died of bird flu in Akola district, but has appealed to poultry farm owners and residents to take precautions and check spread of the disease in the area.
