The Intelligence Bureau has sounded a terror alert in Mumbai and Ahmedabad after receiving intelligence inputs about some operatives of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba trying to slip into these cities to carry out large-scale attacks.

Sources in the IB told rediff.com that there has been a build-up of the dreaded group in these two cities and a general alert had been sent to the police departments of both cities.

The alert about Mumbai was specific, with intercepts suggesting that terrorists were trying to attack high-profile targets like hotels and the police headquarter. According to sources, the terrorists are trying to carry out a blast near the police headquarters in Mumbai. The intelligence input also suggests that the terrorists were attempting to drive in explosive-laden vehicles into their targets.

Sources in the IB say that these two cities are very high on the terror radar and terror groups have been trying constantly to carry out major attacks. The two cities are being targeted in an apparently retaliatory attack, as the state police teams had neutralised the terror modules in these two cities.
