Days after National Security Advisor M K Narayanan briefed Leader of Opposition L K Advani of the threat perception to Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the party will send both the leaders to campaign for twenty-five party candidates in Nagaland.
"As far as the threat to the political leadership of BJP is concerned, NSCN is not against the political leadership," said a senior party leader, who sought anonymity.
Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who is in-charge of the BJP in Nagaland, expressed apprehensions that under the present Governor, K Shankaranarayan, it was not possible to have free and fair elections in the state. In the last elections, seven of the BJP nominees won their elections and formed the government.
"The situation is really bad in Kohima and Dimapur, where heavily armed guards of NSCN (Khapland) and NSCN(Issac-Muivah) group roam around freely. Under these conditions, we ask the Election Commission to take charge of the situation," he said
On Modi, he said the state unit had requested for the chief minister and he had accepted the invitation. No date has been set up any of the top leaders of the party as to when they would visit Nagaland.
Party chief Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj would join Advani and Modi in campaigning.
