Showing magnanimity, Kiran Bedi, IPS officer of the 1972 batch, who lost out in the race for commissioner of police of Delhi to Yadhbir Singh Dadwal, her junior by two years, has offered to help the incumbent in case he comes to her for any advice.
Bedi made this offer to a private television network during an interview on why she lost out in the race.
"If he comes to me, then I will offer him advice. After all, Delhi is my city too and I would like to make it as safe as possible," she said.
Dadwal, new commissioner of police, Delhi, was not available for comment on the offer.
She denied that she too had lobbied for the post very hard, but she lost because Dadwal's lobby was stronger.
"I would like to know where and how I lobbied," she asked in reply to a question.
The first woman Indian Police Service Officer, Bedi has gone on protest leave till she finds a suitable job for herself.
The gutsy officer said that she had never used gender to fight her case.
She believed in merit, but now she has been defeated by the system.
Bedi is now planning to bring out a book that would expose how the system and lobbying works for getting key posts.
