The Maharashtra government, on Wednesday, announced relaxation of the loudspeaker ban between 10 pm and midnight for two more days during the Navratri festival. With this, the total number of days on which the ban will be ralaxed during Navratri has increased to four.

Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil told reporters that the state government had decided to allocate the two days earlier meant for Ganesh festival, for the Navratri.

"As the Supreme Court ruling allowing continuation of deadline relaxation for 15 specified days in the state came only after the Ganesh festival, the two days meant for Ganesh festival were not used," Patil said. "Following public demand, we have decided to add those two days to Navratri."

Patil said that following the SC's ruling of October 3, the state government could now continue to act upon a Government Resolution of April 7, 2003, giving relaxation of upto two hours (10 pm to midnight) on the notified 15 days in a calendar year.

The notified days where relaxation is permitted include three days for Ganesh festival, two days for Navratri, Christmas, new year's eve, two days for Diwali, Idd-e-Milad, Shiv Jayanti, Ambedkar Jayanti and three other days, as decided by the government following demand by local people.
