The Andhra Pradesh police ruled out the possibility of a judicial inquiry into the alleged fake encounter of Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad on Sunday, but assured of an probe by the department into the incident.
Referring to the allegations of civil rights groups that Azad was killed in a "fake encounter", Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar said "whatever allegations made by Maoists or their frontal organisations, I term them as baseless and not correct".
As for Azad's case is concerned they (Maoists) are unnecessarily making some point in post-mortem examination report and trying to blow it up in a disproportionate manner, Kumar told reporters here after inaugurating a cyber lab centre of the Central Investigation Department.
The statements by the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee and other similar groups were creating unnecessary confusions and misgivings among public, the judiciary and Human Rights Commission, the DGP said.
"Allegations on the PME contents are not true. It's an exchange of fire. The police department will conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident," he stated.
The recent DG/IG's conference also discussed about Maoist outfit,s who were making false accusations and allegations from various forums and putting entire paramilitary and police on the dock, the top officer said.
It is the standard operating procedure followed by Maoists to lay blame on police for exchange of fire as in the case of Azad or even if any of their cadre goes missing.
"This is a general pattern which Maoists are following, and sending wrong signals across the country and putting things in a very misleading and mischievous manner," the DGP asserted.
Reacting to a query on the demand for a judicial inquiry into the killing of Azad, Singh said "there is no need for any such inquiry".
The DGP also refused to comment on Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee's terming Azad's killing as "not correct".
