Three Hindi-speaking traders were shot dead by suspected KLNLF militants in Central Assam's Nagaon district early Monday morning, police said.

A group of six suspected Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) extremists from neighbouring Karbi Anglong district descended upon Sukanjuri village under Samoguri police station and went to the houses of two families there.

The ultras then brought out two members of one family and one from the other family and shot them dead at the village square around 5.30 a.m, the sources said.

The dead were identified as Jogeswar Shah (60) and his son Mahesh (30) as well as Paban Sarma (27). They were small traders.

Police and civil officials have rushed to the village and investigations are on.

Villagers said the KLNLF ultras regularly come down from the hills of Karbi Anglong district and attack the people in the bordering areas of Nagaon district to grab land.
