The banned United Liberation Front of Asom has served a Rs 2 crore extortion notice to the Hindustan Lever Limited's Doom Dooma division in Assam, a company spokesman said on Tuesday.

The company has informed the state government and the Centre about the ULFA's letter, which was delivered on September 26, General Manager (corporate communication) S Bhattacharya told PTI from Mumbai.

Both had initiated measures to ensure the security of HLL employees and continuity of its operations in tea plantations as well as in factories in Assam.

In keeping with its global policy, the company, which is part of the Unilever Group and operates in more than fifty countries, does not make extortion payments, Bhattacharya said.
