Gill, a 1972 batch IPS officer at present posted in the rank of director general of police in Rajasthan, will remain in office till January 31 next year. His name was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Joshi, a 1971 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre, will be retiring on February 28 after heading the 210-battalion strong force for nearly one year.
During his tenure as head of the paramilitary force, Joshi brought in several changes including setting up of COBRA force to tackle left-wing extremism.
Considered
an expert sleuth, he was responsible for setting up of intelligence wing in the CRPF. He had served in the Intelligence Bureau for over a decade and had cracked some important cases related to terrorism and counter-espionage.
Among other changes in the Home Ministry, Special Secretary Vinay Kumar has been appointed Secretary Border Management. Kumar, a 1975-batch IAS officer, who was heading the Naxal Division in the Home Ministry, will replace Jarnail Singh, who has been appointed Secretary in the Ministry of DONER (Department of North Eastern Region), it was officially stated.
The ACC also approved the proposal of the Home Ministry for appointment of Ajit K Lal, a 1974-batch IPS officer, as Special Director in Intelligence Bureau.
