Arjun Singh's condition improving

The condition of Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh, who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi after stomach pain, is improving, doctors said on Friday.

"His condition is stable and he is improving," said All India Institute of Medical Sciences Medical Superintendent Dr D K Sharma.

The 77-year-old Congress leader was admitted to the hospital on the night of July 30. He has been diagnosed with acute cholecystitis, cardio-artery disease, left ventricle failure, diabetes mellitus, diabetic neuropathy and chronic obstructive airway disease.

"He was in an acute phase when admitted. In the beginning, we will try antibiotics to cure the infection. Once the infection is under control we might go for operation of the gall bladder," said one of the doctors.

Singh is being looked after by a team of doctors headed by Dr T K Chattopadhyay, head of the department of general surgery, and Dr Chandralekha, HoD, Anaesthesiology.
