The government Thursday approved amendments to the Protection of Human Rights Bill, 2005. The official amendments would facilitate the functioning of the National Human Rights Commission and State Human Rights Commissions, besides making them more effective, Information and Broadcasting Minister P.R. Dasmunsi told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.
Dasmunsi said the proposed amendment bill was placed before a standing committee and the Cabinet had given its nod for placing it before Parliament. "We hope this bill would be considered in the monsoon session of Parliament," he said.
