Poonam, the wife of cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad, was lobbying for Patparganj constituency in east Delhi. She came to the BJP central headquarters and submitted her resignation after the seat was alloted to Nakul Bharadwaj, a former student's leader.
"People from Uttar Pradesh [ Images ] and Bihar are not been given adequate representation in the list of candidates," she said after submitting her resignation.
She had unsuccessfully contested against Dikshit in the 2003 assembly elections from the Gole Market constituency.
Commenting on her resignation, BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley [ Images ] said Poonam was a dedicated party worker and she would not have quit the party for "merely not getting a party ticket".
The BJP has announced its candidates for 69 out of the 70 seats for the assembly elections.
