The Mumbai police have recovered the body of a sailor after the barge in which he was sailing sunk near Mumbai coast.

"Identification of the body is in progress," the Directorate General of Shipping said.

The barge, Al Murtuza, with 8 sailors and carrying sand cargo, was sailing between Chiplun and Mumbai. It left Chiplun on June 4.

There are three survivors and four are missing, the Directorate General of Shipping said in a statement.

The search is on for the four missing sailors, it added.

After the barge sunk, one survivor swam and came ashore on June 5 morning.

Two others were saved by another barge that was travelling between Dabhol and Mumbai on June 5.
