Mani Kumar Subba, Congress parliamentarian from Tejpur in Assam, on Tuesday denied allegations that he was a convict on the run from Nepalese jail and had illegally entered India and contested polls from Assam.

Talking to media persons at his residence in New Delhi, Subba said, "The letter from Ilam jail, Nepal, exposes the allegations made in the CNN-IBN story. I was never in any jail in Nepal for any criminal case. I have got a letter from the Nepalese home ministry about this."

Flashing a letter from the Nepal government, Subba said, "I am going to file a Rs 10 crore defamation suit against the channel, which has been defaming me. I have made video cassettes and submitted the same to the honourable Supreme Court."

When reminded that he was yet filed his reply to the Supreme Court, the deadline for which was March 2, the lawmaker said, "This is for my advocates to decide when they will file the reply."

Subba could not give a convincing reply when asked why he gave different dates of birth in his election documents. He also denied that his nomination papers were rejected by the electoral officer in Sikkim.

In fact, he could not even name the school he had been enrolled in as a student.

"I have given all the documents to the Supreme Court. This is ten-year-old story, which is now being recycled. I had filed a case against a Nepalese magazine Rato Dham (Rising Son) and I had won the defamation case," he said.

Subba questioned the documents produced by the television channel and called them fabricated and fraud.
