With several names being suggested as United Progressive Alliance candidates for the presidential election, Leader of Opposition L K Advani on Thursday took a dig at the ruling coalition for not being 'able to have consensus.'

'The ruling alliance is not able to have a consensus,' Advani told television channel NDTV in New Delhi.

'Never in the history of the country has there been a dozen names floating around as being possible candidates of the ruling party. What kind of situation is this,' the senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader asked.

His comments came as the names of several Congress leaders, including Home Minister Shivraj Patil, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Karan Singh and N D Tiwari were doing rounds for the top Constitutional post.
