Was it six, seven or perhaps even eight? Two hours after a series of high-intensity blasts rocked the Western suburban train services in Mumbai on Tuesday evening, confusion prevailed over the exact number of blasts occurred, with different officials giving out varying figures.

While Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy put the figure at seven, state Director-General of Police P S Pasricha said he had knowledge of only six blasts.

Railway control room sources said they too had knowledge of six blasts, but city police control sources said there were seven blasts, resulting in the death of more than 100 persons.

A television channel put the blasts' number at eight, but this information was not confirmed by any authorities.
