A mob blocked traffic and stoned vehicles after a speeding bus ran down a 10-year-old boy in Kolkata on Thursday.

He was rushed to the Ramkrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, sources said.

The accident occurred when the boy was crossing an intersection.

As news of his death reached his residential Railway Colony in Lake Gardens, residents of the area assembled and started hurling stones at passing vehicles.

The mob put up a road blockade and also set fire to the bus and a police assistance camp in the area, the police said.

Lathi-wielding policemen dispersed the mob.

The bus driver has been arrested, police said.
