Service chiefs jointly review security in Northeast

The Chief of Staff Committee comprising the three service chiefs of the Indian armed forces was on Friday paid a joint visit to the Northeast to review the security scenario.

This may perhaps be the first instance of the service chiefs jointly reviewing the security scenario in the Northeast.

The three chiefs – naval chief Admiral Madhvendra Singh who is the chairman of the committee, army chief General N C Vij and Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy, landed in Shillong, Meghalaya and headed for the headquarters of Assam Rifles.

Assam Rifles Director General Lt Gen Bhopinder Singh briefed them about the history and development of the oldest paramilitary force of the country and its role in maintaining peace and harmony in the Northeast.

He also apprised the three chiefs about the developmental and social work being undertaken by the force.
