Toll in Andhra Pradesh heat wave rises to 489

The toll due to the severe heat wave prevalent in several parts of Andhra Pradesh rose to 489 on Wednesday.

D C Rosaiah, state relief commissioner, told rediff.com that a total of 683 persons were affected. East Godavari district has accounted for 85 deaths, followed by Prakasam and Karimnagar districts with 52 fatalities each.

The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre warned that heat wave conditions will continue to prevail in the next 48 hours in Nellore and Prakasam districts in south coastal Andhra and Karimnagar and Warangal districts in interior Telangana.

Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in Kurnool and Anantapur districts in Rayalaseema region, Meteorological Centre director C V V Bhadram said.
