Tohra to be new SGPC president July 16, 2003 15:15 IST Last Updated: July 16, 2003 15:37 IST Senior Akali leader Gurcharan Singh Tohra will be the new president of Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee. Shiromani Akali Dal president and former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal announced this on Wednesday in Delhi. Badal said Badungar would submit his resignation to the SGPC executive committee. The changes come in the wake of the recent unity moves the two factions of the Akali Dal -- one led by Badal and other led by Tohra. Badungar said he had taken up the presidentship of the SGPC as per the party direction. He was ready to take up any assignment the high command might give, he added.
