Key ministers drafted for party work: Advani

January 29, 2003 18:02 IST

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Wednesday said key ministers, including Pramod Mahajan, were being drafted for party work in view of the upcoming assembly polls in nine state and the general election in 2004.

"We had to shift some important people to the party from the government keeping the coming elections in mind," Advani said ahead of the reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers in the evening.

Advani said the Bharatiya Janata Party would like to face the electorate not only on the plank of 'good governance' provided by the National Democratic Alliance government since 1997, but also put across the message that people could have 'faith' in the party to meet their expectations.

He said the changes in the Cabinet and in the BJP were part of the process to revamp the party since the meeting of its top leadership in Goa in March 2002.

"The kind of exercise we are attempting is not done in any other party," he said.
