Government to withdraw case against Geelani

January 10, 2003 17:53 IST

The government on Friday moved a Delhi court seeking withdrawal of the case against journalist Iftikar Geelani under the Official Secrets Act, his counsel said.

"They have filed an application before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sangita Dhingra Sehgal for withdrawal of the case," V K Ohri told the Press Trust of India.

The CMM had posted the matter for Monday, he added.

Geelani was arrested in June 2001 for allegedly possessing sensitive documents relating to the deployment of troops in Jammu and Kashmir.
