A Mumbai special court on Thursday remanded Iqbal Shaikh Kaskar, younger brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, to police custody till March 6, while another court remanded Mohammad Sharif alias Ejaz Pathan, an accused in the Mumbai blasts case, to Central Bureau of Investigation custody till February 27.

The two were deported from Dubai on Wednesday night. Iqbal was produced in Ballard Pier court, while Sharif was produced in the court of designated judge P D Kode.

Investigating officer Rajan Dhoble stated to additional chief metropolitan magistrate V K Sharma that Iqbal was wanted in connection with the murder of a customs informer Ravindra Babulal Singh, who was shot dead on September 21, 1998.

Iqbal's counsel Shyam Keswani told the court that he had not been extradited from the United Arab Emirates, but came on his own to India since he did not have any valid passport.

Iqbal was recently asked to leave the UAE as he did not have a passport, the court was informed.

Producing Pathan in the afternoon before judge Kode, the CBI counsel said the gangster was involved in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts conspiracy and had helped Dawood Ibrahim in supplying arms and ammunition to execute the serial explosions.

He was instrumental in landing arms and ammunition in coastal Raigarh district in February 1993, the court was told. The counsel added that Pathan, however, fled India along with other accused before the blasts.

The court had earlier issued non-bailable warrant against Ejaz and sent red-corner notices to Interpol to apprehend him.
