Trinamool MP Ananda Mohan Biswas dies

February 03, 2003 21:10 IST

Trinamool Congress MP Ananda Mohan Biswas died in Kolkata on Monday after a heart attack, family sources said.

Biswas, the MP from Nabadwip, complained of chest pain at the Howrah station after his return from New Delhi by the Rajdhani Express. He was immediately admitted to the Medical College Hospital where he breathed his last.

He was 64 and is survived by wife and a son.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal assembly Pankaj Banerjee visited the hospital.

His body will be taken to Nabadwip on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee expressed grief over his demise. In a condolence message, he said Biswas was a dedicated leader of the masses and an able parliamentarian.

"In his death, not only the state of West Bengal, but the entire nation has lost a true democrat and a man of principles," the prime minister added.
